Achievements

KAB has been established as the leading disabled people organization in Kaski.KAB has been able to assure its active participation in various policy and decision-making bodies in both the local and regional level.

  1. Awareness and advocacy: We have already reached awareness raising programs in 18 VDCs, which has changed social attitude towards people with disabilities and their capabilities. Eighteen self-help groups of PWDs have been formed and are actively advocating for their rights.
  1. CBR program in six VDCs: The CBR program supported by government of Nepal has been running in six different VDCs. Due to this program PWDs in those areas are now empowered, can speak for their rights and some of them have started income generation activities.
  1. Social mobilization: Since last year, KAB was granted a social mobilization program from DDC Kaski due to our organizational strength and performance. This program is currently running in five VDCs. Now, Five Citizen Awareness Centers are running and 45 ward citizen forum have been formed, where participation of PWDs is ensured.
  1. KAB distributes white cane, slate, stylus and Braille paper to more than 250 individuals each year so that their mobility is not limited, education is improved and confidence is gained.
  1. 18 PWDs are benefited from income generation training annually.
  1. Establishment of a national audio library for the blind.
  1. Conduction of a door to door survey of people with disabilities, and development of a period plan in Kaski district, which has been replicated in many other districts as well.
  1. KAB has been able to establish the first cooperative run by the blind and for the blind in Nepal.
